Lovely Muuuuuuuco! / Itoshi no Muco
Review By: John Fragglepuss Evans
Genre: Comedy, Slice of Life, Dog
First Aired: Fall 2015, 25 somewhat short-form episodes
Summary: Lovely Muco follows the daily life of Komatsu, who lives in the mountains in his glass-making workshop, and his pet dog Muco. While several characters are seen throughout the series, the anime is from the viewpoint of Muco, as the viewer hears the thoughts of the carefree dog. Muco is a simple dog, so his daily life is fun and adorable. He follows Komatsu through the house, tries to help with the glass-blowing workshop, and even comes up with new games for the two of them to play. Yes, it really is that simple.
Lovely Muuuuuuuco! is a fun anime for anyone that has wondered what is going on in a dog’s mind. I have dogs at home and Muco reminds me of how my dogs act at times. The animation in the series is unique and while it initially caught me off-guard, I got used to it fairly quick. Another unusual aspect of the show was the length of the episodes. While normal episodes in a series are about 30 minutes and “short-form” series have episodes that are about 5 minutes, Muco episodes clock in at about 12 minutes each, meaning they are too long to be short-form, but too short to be normal length episodes.
You might enjoy this if: You want to know what is going through a dog’s head throughout the day.
You might not like it if: You are looking for an in-depth analysis of the dog’s brain or a story with continual plot development.
Note to the Viewer: Lovely Muco is a nice anime to watch as a pick-me-up in between the dark and gritty anime that tend to leave you feeling sad and hopeless.
