Nyan Koi!
Review By: John Fragglepuss Evans
Genre: Comedy, Romance, Harem, School, Cats Cats Cats!
First Aired: Fall 2009, 12 episodes.
Summary: Junpei Kousakam, a second-year high school student, loathes cats and has an allergy to them, so naturally his family has a cat and the girl he has a crush on loves cats. While walking home from school on an otherwise normal afternoon, Junpei unknowingly kicks an empty can that contains Beans, the local Guardian Deity of Cats. Beans is not amused with being kicked and makes Junpei be able to understand what cats are saying. Additionally, if he does not grant 100 cat wishes, he will become a cat himself.
It is fairly easy to tell from the beginning that Nyan Koi is a comedy, especially when Junpei has to find a way to grant a cat’s wish by telling a high school girl that the cat is grateful for the girl feeding the cat. The story is not the best, but the art is vibrant and the characters are comical. Nyan Koi knows which genre of anime it is and goes with it. If you enjoy this anime, you will fly through it in no time, maybe even in one session!
You might enjoy this if: You classify yourself as a “Crazy Cat Lady”.
You might not like it if: You are more of a dog person.
Note to the Viewer: The literal translation of Nyan Koi is “Meow Love”, a fitting title if you ask me! The manga began serialization on Flex Comic’s free web comic in August 2007.
