Salt Lake Comic Con FanX 2015
Salt Lake City, Utah
Day 3, Saturday, January 31, 2015
Review By: John Fragglepuss Evans
Billie Piper had a celebrity panel to start off the final day of Salt Lake Comic Con FanX. She was asked a wide variety of questions, ranging from Doctor Who to her career as a pop singer. She mentioned how she lives five minutes away from Matt Smith and how they hang out all the time.
My fellow Anime Happy Hour podcasters (Breanne Evans, Brittany Evans, Lindsay Starke) and I hosted our panel on the Latest and Greatest in Anime on day three. In the panel we discussed over 30 new anime that have started broadcasting in the past year. The panel was well attended, completely filling the panel room of 500 seats. We would like to thank everybody that attended the panel. I will be posting the details of the panel in a separate post.
The guys at Touch Paper Press were part of several panels, including: Telling Stories in RPGs and Sometimes It’s OK to Kill the Good Guy. As usual, there panels were wonderful. As one last reminder, you can find their wares at TouchPaperPress.com.
Saturday was full of interesting celebrity panels such as one with Carrie Fisher and another with the Lannisters, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Lena Headey. The panel of voice actors Jess Harnell, Jim Cummings, and Rob Paulsen reading scenes from Harry Potter was so popular that they had an encore panel of it. There were a wide variety of other activities at the convention as well, including an official after party, celebrity photo ops, board gaming, sci-fi speed dating, a Mario Kart tournament, cosplay contest, and zombie laser tag.
The cosplay throughout the convention was diverse, but do not worry, there were plenty of Deadpools to go around. The lines were not an issue at this convention, which shows that the organizers have learned and made improvements from last year’s Salt Lake Comic Con. There was a quality celebrity lineup throughout the weekend. I would say that the convention was an overall success.
