Vampire Knight (Manga)

Review By: Lindsay Evans-Starke

Genre: School, Romance, Supernatural, Action, Tragedy

Original Run: November 2004 – May 2013

Volumes: 19

Summary: Cross Academy is not your average high school. This elite school is separated into two distinct classes, the Day Class and the Night Class. As the name suggests, the classes rotate when the sun comes up and when the sun goes down. Yuuki Cross and Zero Kiryuu are prefects at this academy. Their job is to maintain order between the two classes. This can be a handful considering the Night Class consists of a bunch of gorgeous elites that the Day Class pine over. The prefect job is very important considering those sexy Night Class members are all…vampires. Not only must Yuuki and Zero protect the Day Class students from the Night Class, they must also protect the school secret that the Night Class is in fact a race of vampires.
Now let us get to the romance why don’t we? Yuuki is the adopted daughter of the school’s chairman. Being the daughter of the chairman allows Yuuki the special privilege of interacting with her crush and childhood savior, Kaname Kuran. The earliest memory that Yuuki has of Kaname is of him saving her from a vampire that was going to kill her. Zero, Yuukis prefect companion, absolutely hates vampires, and cannot stand that Yuuki is in love with one. Who will win Yuuki’s love? What is the truth of Yuuki’s past? Is it possible for vampires and humans to co-exist? You will find out all that and more in this amazing manga.

You might enjoy this if: You like a lot of sexual tension and forbidden love, not to mention sexy vampires. This is a manga for those out there that love supernatural romance.

You might not like it if: You want a strong female protagonist. I love Yuuki for what she is in this story, but if you want a bad ass girl with a back bone, she will drive you absolutely crazy.

Note to the Reader: I would read the manga before watching the anime. Like most anime it leaves you hanging and there is no second season. I have found that people either love or hate this, decide for yourself! Do not let others dissuade you from giving it a shot.
