Hellsing
Review By: John Fragglepuss Evans
Genre: Action, Horror, Mystery, Supernatural, Vampires
First aired: Fall 2001, 13 episodes + Hellsing Ultimate, a 10 episode reboot of the series
Summary: Hellsing follows the vampire Alucard, and a police girl-turned-vampire, Seras Victoria, both of whom are employed by the vampire-extermination group of England, the Hellsing Organization. They discover that there is a new breed of vampires beginning to arise…
This is the simple explanation for a seriously intense anime. I first watched Hellsing years ago and was so impressed that I went back and started watching it again. Alucard is an anti-hero that you grow to love. I really enjoy Victoria as a character, although I know that there are a lot of strong feelings both ways for her out in the anime community. Hellsing is a wonderful anime because it revolves around vampires but does not necessarily feel like a vampire anime. Also, it came out before the recent trend of making vampires beautiful, dainty, and sexy.
You might enjoy this if: You enjoy an anime in a world that contains vampires that do not hold back. Yes, there is violence and blood in Hellsing.
You might not like it if: You like your vampires to be cute and bubbly as opposed to harsh and unrelenting. Alucard is a cold-blooded vampire…
Note to the Viewer: The mystery behind Alucard was enough to keep me intrigued by Hellsing.
