Sunday Without God / Kamisama no Inai Nichiyoubi
Review By: John Fragglepuss Evans
Genre: Mystery, Fantasy, Drama, Post-Apocalyptic, Death
First Aired: Summer 2013, 12 episodes
Summary: God abandoned the world on Sunday. As a result, nobody in the world can die or reproduce. A little girl, Ai, is a gravekeeper, meaning she is tasked with burying the would-be dead to have them try and find peace. She uses a shovel that doesn’t really look like a shovel, but does in an anime sort of way. She has prepared graves for every member of her village. A man who identifies himself as Hampnie Hambart, which is coincidentally the name that Ai’s mother left behind as the name of her father, arrives in the village and slaughters everybody. This begins the journey for Ai.
You might enjoy this if: A post-apocalyptic drama is what you seek. I was interested in this anime ever since I first read what it was about.
You might not like it if: This is not a comedy that will leave you feeling good after each episode. It will hit you with emotion from time to time, so be warned.
Note to the Viewer: Beware, it takes a twist about halfway through the season.
